Dr. Coffman earned her medical degree and a Master’s in Public Health concentrating in Health Systems Management from Tulane University.  She completed her residency in psychiatry at Tulane University and was Chief Resident from 2013-2014.  She then completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at Emory University.  Following her fellowship, Dr. Coffman joined the Emory faculty and splits her time between the Psychiatry and Law Service and the Women’s Mental Health Program.  She is interested in studying female specific issues in the criminal justice system and promoting early detection and treatment of peripartum mental health disorders.  She helped develop an early intervention pilot project that diverts some women with low-level, non-violent charges out of the criminal justice system and into mental health treatment.
