The Nia team recognizes the best way to address the needs of our clients, their families and the community is to get their input and use it in developing and providing services. The Nia Project Community Advisory Board (NIA-CAB) was established in 2011 and is made up of community members including previous and current participants/consumers, community activists, scholars, spiritual leaders, business leaders, health care providers and criminal justice representatives. These individuals have a personal investment in preventing domestic violence and/or suicide.
As a group, the NIA-CAB is charged with:
- Providing feedback on clinical interventions, projects, grants, research and policies
- Advocating for future Nia directions
- Alerting Nia to community issues and hot topics in the areas of domestic violence and suicide (e.g. intimate partner violence and the law, suicide in the African American community)
- Assisting with community outreach and fundraising
- Collaborating with other stakeholders to end intimate partner violence
